In-state $1,680 per year Out-of-state $6,960 per year Books and supplies $1,000 per year Arizona Automotive Institute 6829 N 46th Ave Glendale, AZ, 85301 (800) 528-0717 http://www.aai.edu The estimated fees for their course is $24,000. Mohave Community College 1971 Jagerson Ave Kingman, AZ 86409 (928) 757-4331 http://www.mohave.edu The tuition at Mohave Community College as expected from a community college, tends to be affordable for most students. In-state $2,016 Out-of-state $7,488 Books and supplies $810 East Valley Institute of Technology 1601 W Main St Mesa, AZ 85201 (480) 461-4000 http://www.evit.com East Valley Institute, being a private organization, has the expected higher fees that go along with it. The nice end though is that usually when there is a public school involved for a technical school, the wait time to get accepted, and get started is usually much better. Tuition and fees $11,069 Books and supplies $771 GateWay Community College 108 N. 40th Street Phoenix, AZ 85034 (602) 392-5000 http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu Again with Gateway you get the public university pricing for an HVAC school, but may run into more competition getting into the seat that first day of class. Tuition and fees In-state $1,854 Out-of-state $7,638 Books and supplies $1,240 The Refrigeration School 4210 E Washington Street Phoenix, AZ 85034 (602) 275-7133 http://refrigerationschool.com Again the fees for this school are higher than the rest of the state in general, so make sure to investigate to make sure you are getting value for the extra debt you will be going into, going to this school to start the trade. Before signing up for a private HVAC organization like this, I would ask some of the A/C and Heating techs in the field for their opinion. Tuition and fees $19,350 Books and supplies $1,675 Eastern Arizona College 615 N. Stadium Ave. Thatcher, AZ 85552 (928) 428-8322 http://www.eac.edu Students in the Thatcher area will benefit from a public school education that won’t set them back financially before they start school Tuition and fees In-state $1,760 Out-of-state $8,360 Books and supplies $850 Pima Community College 401 North Bonita Avenue Tucson, AZ 85709 (520) 206-4500 http://www.pima.edu Another fine public institution to get your heat and cool on! Tuition and fees In-state $1,652 Out-of-state $7,784 Books and supplies $1,600 Arizona Western College 2020 S. If you have first hand information about any of the pricing, or other information about these schools, we would love you to contact us and keep the area clean and accurate. We don’t want any sand blowing onto our page. Employment Details and Pay At our last check, according to The Department of Labor, there were about 4,990 men and women employed in the business of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning business in Arizona. Of those, 3,460 are employed in the Mesa and Phoenix metropolitan areas. Across the state, the average pay for those in the industry is right around $49,000. For those who work in the big city, the pay is a little higher coming in at just under $52,000 if you work in Phoenix or Mesa. This comes out to $24.96 per hour for those in the Phoenix area. For those who do this same work in Tuscon, the average HVAC salary is $42,520 which is a very significant difference in pay compared to those fixing A/C units in Phoenix. This is $20.44 per hour as compared to the $5 more you would get per hour working in Phoenix. Havasu Area Those doing the same job in the Havasu area come in at $44,130, which is probably kept up due to the outside tourism money that pours into this little area. Yuma HVAC workers pay Yuma workers get paid $19.47 hour and $40,510 annually. This is a much lower cost area to live. I am still surprised, after staying in Yuma recently, that they don’t have to pay more to keep people motivated to stay in Yuma. With an education like this, you can find a job in most places in the world, so I would have expected a much higher pay would be needed to keep people in Yuma. Yuma does have a surprising and fun little skatepark though where I met a Native American who leads a group of running Native Americans who do long runs across the southwest. Pay Rates in Other Parts of Arizona Flagstaff, AZ: $20.58 hour $42,810 annual Prescott, AZ: $20.16 hour $41,930 annual Next NON-METROPOLITAN AREAS North Arizona Non-metro: $19.69 $40,960 South Arizona Non-metro: $16.09 $33,470 There is a consistent pattern in this with the areas with a larger population making more than those in the less dense areas, with of course the exception of Havasu.
